My great-uncle, Piotr
John Jacobs, was born at home on April 28, 1898 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He was the 4th child and 3rd oldest son
of Anastazja and Johann Jakubowski. His full name is pronounced PYAWTR, but his friends and family called him Peter
or Pete for short. He, like his sister Franciszka, went by both Jacobs and Jakubowski for his last name.
He married Olevia(O-LAY-vee-a) M. Gabriell
on June 27, 1921. They had six children. They moved to Geneva, New York in the 1940's and lived there the rest
of their lives.
At one point before moving to New York, they
helped to operate The Ice Castle Inn with her father, which eventually became The Hillside Inn in Kingston Township.
That building is currently still standing and is just past the turn for Hillside Road on Route 309 in the Back Mountain of
Northeast Pennsylvania.
Piotr was a machine inspector at U.S.
Radiator Company and had also been a chaffauer for Fleischmann Yeast Company before he got married. I found a World
War I draft registration card for him, but I don't know if he served during the war.
Olevia died on June 28, 1962 and she is
buried at the St. Mary's Church of the Maternity Cemetery in West Wyoming, Pennsylvania. Piotr died on July 5, 1978
and he's buried right near his wife.
